The Day of Pentecost
Pentecost bursts into our worship with wind, fire, and the unmistakable nearness of God.
In Acts, the Spirit descends not quietly but with power—gathering people of every language into one body and sending the disciples out with courage they did not possess the day before.
Psalm 104 reminds us that this same Spirit is the breath that renews the face of the earth, the life‑force that sustains creation.
Paul’s words to the Corinthians teach that the Spirit’s gifts are varied but always given for the common good, weaving unity out of difference.
And in John’s Gospel, the risen Christ breathes peace upon His disciples and entrusts them with the ministry of reconciliation.
Together, these readings draw us into a day of holy energy, renewal, and commissioning—a reminder that the Church is born not from our strength, but from God’s Spirit moving through ordinary people in extraordinary ways.

Unlocked Spirit, you are the breath of peace; no door keeps you out: invade our warring confusion, disarm our defences and shape us to live as a people of forgiveness; through Jesus Christ, the word of reconciliation. Amen.
