Our rector is our primary source of pastoral care, especially valued in times of transition and loss. Additionally, St. Dunstan’s is fortunate to have several groups devoted to the ministry of compassion.
The Daughters of the King (St. Elizabeth Chapter) pray daily for our parish and its parishioners, with special prayers for the homebound and those who are grieving. Their ministry includes letters and cards of support and comfort, delivery of Easter and Christmas flowers and plants to homebound and ailing parish members, and Christmas gifts for needy families in Monterey County.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets weekly to knit beautiful wraps to warm the bodies and souls of the people who receive them. These are blessed and delivered to anyone who would benefit from such a gift and the prayers that accompany it.
Wind Phone
Our Wind Phone, set under the trees just off our parking lot, with a companion bench, is offered as comfort to anyone seeking a quiet place to sit with grief and loss. A vintage rotary phone resides in a small cabinet. Visitors can use the phone to make a “call” to someone they miss.
The act of offering one’s voice to the wind can be cathartic and connective. St. Dunstan’s sees this an extension of our calling to extend compassion and grace to those who mourn. Look for the small Wind Phone sign and follow the path next to it.
