The 4th Sunday of Easter

The Fourth Sunday of Easter draws us into the quiet strength and tender care of the risen Christ, our Good Shepherd.

In John’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of himself as the shepherd who calls his sheep by name and leads them into abundant life. Psalm 23 echoes this promise with its beloved assurance that the Lord guides, restores, and protects us even in the darkest valleys.

Acts paints a picture of the early Christian community living out this shepherding love through shared prayer, fellowship, and generosity.

And 1 Peter reminds us that Christ, the shepherd and guardian of our souls, heals and restores us through his self‑giving love. The mood of the day is one of trust, belonging, and steady hope — a reminder that we are held, guided, and known by the One who leads us into life.

Collect

O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice, we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
