The 6th Sunday of Easter

The Sixth Sunday of Easter invites us to trust the God who is not far from any of us, the One in whom “we live and move and have our being.”

Paul’s sermon at the Areopagus proclaims a God who is both Creator and Sustainer, calling all people into new life.

Psalm 66 lifts a song of thanksgiving to the God who hears our prayers and holds our lives in mercy.

First Peter encourages us to live with gentleness, courage, and hope, even in the face of challenge.

And in John’s Gospel, Jesus promises the gift of the Advocate – the Spirit who abides with us and within us.

As Rogation Sunday, the mood is one of gratitude, trust, and intercession: we ask God’s blessing on the earth, our work, our communities, and all that sustains life.

Collect

O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
