The 4th Sunday of Advent
Readings
- Isaiah 7:10-16 offers a sign of hope: a child to be born, whose very presence signals God’s faithfulness in uncertain times.
- Romans 1:1-7 proclaims the good news long promised—fulfilled in Jesus, descended from David and revealed as God’s Son.
- Matthew 1:18-25 tells Joseph’s story of trust, courage, and obedience as he receives the message that Mary’s child is the long-awaited Savior. The mood is one of expectant tenderness—the world holding its breath as God draws near.
- Psalm 80:1-7, 16-18 is a heartfelt plea: “Restore us, O God… let your face shine, that we may be saved.”
Collect
God with us, borne by Mary’s flesh beyond all convention: give us the faith of Joseph to see the Spirit’s work where the world sees only shame; to listen to the promise and waken to the cry of life renewed and love reborn; through Jesus Christ, the one who is to come. Amen.
